ATTENTION: Jim, Jon, Rudy, Valerie, Chris, Joel, Scott, Daniel and other folks interested in City Ministry - NEW BOOK ALERT!!

George Grant mentioned on his blog (July 30th post) the newest edition of the Acton Institute's Markets & Morality journal which has New Urbanism as its focus. I went to the library yesterday to copy the articles dealing with New Urbanism, but after seeing the length of the two or three articles that deal with New Urbanism, I decided I'd be better off just buying a single issue.

I'm not sure that I'm ready to jump on the New Urbanism bandwagon, but I certainly am intrigued by some of their ideas. In light of that I'm eager to sit down at some point with a new book from Brazos Press (in the Baker Books family) called Sidewalks in the Kingdom: New Urbanism and the Christian Faith. Though the preceding link promises a website associated with the book, it appears that it's not up yet. However, if you click here you can download a PDF of what appears to be a mock up of the coming site: Perusing that PDF document makes it pretty clear that this is a must read for Christians interested in New Urbanism, and arguably for all Christians who are involved in urban ministry, broadly construed. The book is written by Eric O. Jacobsen who is an associate pastor in a PC(USA) Church in Missoula, Montana.
